Upper Room is the Catholic Retrievers’ monthly formation program.
This program is inspired by the Apostles who met in the “upper room” (see Acts 1:13) to pray with and encourage one another as they prepared to go out and perform the mission Jesus had entrusted to them: "go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (Mt. 28:19-20).
Like our Catholic beliefs and traditions, this Great Commission has been passed down from generation to generation; therefore, Jesus now entrusts this mission of evangelization to each one of us.
The goal of our Upper Rooms is to facilitate community and fellowship and to provide useful formation material for students so that those in attendance are inspired and equipped to go out onto campus (and beyond) and be a witness of the Gospel of Christ.
Last academic year (2023-24), we studied the cardinal virtues of prudence, temperance, fortitude, and justice, because no matter where someone is in his or her faith journey, deeper knowledge of and growth in the life of virtue is relevant and necessary.
Pursuing & achieving a life of virtue leads to personal holiness, which will bring us greater peace, joy, and fulfillment in this life; help renew the Church and aid in her mission of evangelization; and ultimately lead us to Heaven.
Stay tuned to discover what our Upper Room topic will be this coming year!
